Seeking Purpose?

What is Spiritual Counseling?

Spiritual counseling (also called spiritual direction, guidance, companioning) helps individuals navigate life’s challenges, find deeper meaning, and foster personal growth. Unlike traditional counseling that often focuses on mental and emotional health in isolation, spiritual counseling considers the spiritual aspect of an individual’s experience, recognizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.

This approach is holistic, addressing the whole person and acknowledging that spiritual well-being can significantly impact overall health and happiness. Spiritual counselors use various techniques, including meditation, mindfulness, prayer, and the exploration of personal beliefs and values, to assist clients in understanding themselves and their place in the world.

Bright Spark Spiritual Counseling is not tied to any specific religion or spiritual path. Instead, it is inclusive, embracing a wide range of spiritual and religious beliefs, tailoring the approach to the individual’s unique spiritual journey and needs. This form of counseling aims to help individuals overcome life’s hurdles, manage stress, and achieve a sense of peace, purpose, and connectedness.

By fostering a deeper understanding of one’s spiritual beliefs and how they influence thoughts and behaviors, spiritual counseling empowers individuals to lead more fulfilling lives, aligning their actions with their core values and beliefs.

Meet Renae

Certified Spiritual Counselor

Welcome! I am a certified Interspiritual/Interfaith Spiritual Counselor with a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling. I feel passionate about spiritual care of all types and am honored to do this work. I named my practice Bright Spark because I love those moments in life when we feel a spark of curiosity, of insight, of knowing, and I believe they are gifts that deserve our attention. A spiritual counseling session should be a break from the busyness of life, the stress, and all that needs to get done. It is an opportunity for you to focus on yourself and the deeper questions of life. I provide a safe, sacred space for anyone wanting to explore their spiritual life, express their true self, wonder about life’s questions, and connect on a deeper level. To do this work, I nurture my connection to Spirit, provide a compassionate presence, use my skills to listen well, and invest in my own ongoing learning and exploration.

Give yourself the time to connect in a deeper way during a spiritual counseling session.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

What should I expect from a spiritual counseling session?

The time is a session is all about you, and it can be tailored to your needs/preferences. Some people like to start with a few minutes of silence or something else to separate the time as sacred. I believe everything falls into the spiritual realm, and you are welcome to bring whatever is on your heart. I will provide a compassionate presence to listen well and ask questions that support you.

Is spiritual counseling the same as therapy?

No. Professional therapists are trained and qualified to work with people experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, and more critical issues. I may refer you to a therapist if you are experiencing something that would be better explored with someone who has the specific training and expertise to help you.

What does interfaith/interspiritual mean?

My background is in the Christian faith, but my training and interests include many different religious/non-religious/spiritual traditions. Most traditions include the same big ideas and many of us wonder about the same life questions regardless of whether or not we participate in some kind of spiritual path. However, if you have specific questions about your chosen faith, traditions, sacred books etc., it may be beneficial for you to meet with a spiritual counselor of your particular tradition.

What is the cost?

I offer a scale of fees ranging from $55 – $125 per one hour session. I trust you to choose the best payment for your financial situation. I ask for 48 hours cancellation notice to avoid being charged for the session. I don’t want financial status to be a barrier to spiritual counseling so please let me know if this scale does not fit for you.

How will we meet?

I am available for in-person sessions for those living in northern Colorado. Meeting by Zoom is also a great option, and it is convenient regardless of our locations. I initially thought something might be lost meeting through Zoom, but I have found it works very well and we are still able to form a connection.

“May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.”
